Rio Marie Fishing Report 2nd December 2024

Weather Conditions

The week brought mostly sunny skies with a few rainy days, showcasing the typical unpredictability of the Amazon. Temperatures ranged between 28°C and 40°C (82°F to 104°F), keeping anglers alert and ready for the challenges of trophy hunting in the tropics.

River Conditions

The river’s water level continues to rise slowly, offering ideal conditions for targeting large Peacock Bass. The gradual increase in depth allowed for more concentrated fishing zones, creating optimal conditions for experienced anglers.

Fishing Summary

The Rio Marié lived up to its title as the ultimate destination for trophy Peacock Bass. This week, anglers from Switzerland, Russia, Austria and Brazil converged on this remote stretch of the Amazon, immersing themselves in a fly-fishing experience like no other.

For the first-timers, adapting to the unique challenges of the Amazon was as much a part of the adventure as the fishing itself. Yet, with persistence, skill, and guidance from the expert Marié team, it wasn’t long before some truly remarkable fish made their way to the nets.

The Marié once again proved why it’s home to the world’s largest Peacock Bass, offering unforgettable moments for those seeking the pinnacle of the fly-fishing experience.

Highlights of the Week

Mario

Mario joined the Rio Marié expedition with some hesitation, having not cast a fly rod in over a decade. But when his guide spotted a juvenile circle near the bank, Mario seized the moment. His first cast was met with a sudden strike, and the fish surged with raw power. Despite his initial doubts, Mario’s instincts kicked in, and he expertly brought the fish to the net. The reward? A stunning 22lb Peacock Bass—his first ever on the Marié!

Breno

Breno’s week reached its peak on the final day. After landing a solid 20lb giant that morning, Breno and his guide Rafael moved to a quiet lagoon in the afternoon. As the day waned, Rafael spotted a nest, and Breno delivered a perfect cast. The strike was immediate, and the fight that followed was nothing short of spectacular. Calm and calculated, Breno worked the fish to the net, landing a 23lb, 89cm (35 in) Peacock Bass, a personal best that capped off an extraordinary trip.

Looking Ahead

As the river continues to rise, conditions are aligning for even greater opportunities in the coming weeks. The Rio Marié remains unmatched for those seeking the thrill of trophy peacock bass, offering a blend of exclusivity, challenge, and the raw beauty of the Amazon.

We’re ready to welcome the next group of anglers to the adventure of a lifetime.
