The first month of the Atlantic Salmon fishing season at West Ranga has started strongly, with good numbers of fish landed, including some real chrome specimens.
Recently, we caught up with our good friends and partners at the lodge, who wrote:
“We’re up to thirty or fish caught per day now, and the Salmon counter in the lower Ægisíðufoss is seeing lots and lots of traffic – yesterday 147 fish went through the counter, and the day before that, there was over 170. So far, the largest fish landed has measured 96cm, but the largest seen on the counter has measured 101cm.
This year, the weather has been very kind, with some lovely hot days, which is what we’re looking for, as the river is generally quite cold. The average water temperature has been around 7 degrees, but on some days it has reached as high as 10 degrees.
In general, it has been a positive start to the season, with nice weather, good fishing and lots of happy guests.”
