Salmon Fishing In Norway – The Season So Far – July 1st 2025

At our Salmon fishing lodges in Norway, the season has started strong, with good numbers of fish landed over the opening month, including some of trophy size. For much of Norway the weather has been slightly colder and wetter than average, but this hasn’t deterred the fish from feeding. Here’s a little snapshot of how the first month of the season has played out.

Here’s a couple of nice fish from the Aevla River, including one for lodge owner William.

Horstad Gård Lodge – Aelva (Åbjøra) River

At the newest destination in our Salmon fishing portfolio, Horstad Gård Lodge on the Aelva River, the season has started positively. During the opening few weeks of the season, 90 fish have been landed up to 9kg by just a small number of visiting rods. With 22 fish caught last week and 18 already in a few days of this week, things are starting to heat up. We have our fingers crossed that they continue in the same vein for our exclusive hosted trip during the first week of August.

Here’s a fantastic fish landed from the famous big-fish river, the Lakselv.

Oldero Lodge – Lakselv River

At Oldero Lodge on the Lakselv River, the first real giants have started to enter the river, with more arriving on every big tide. Over the past couple of days, fish weighing over 13kg have been landed, with the best almost certainly yet to come. The lodge wrote:

“The first real ‘tank’ of the season has been landed, a beautiful fresh fish directly from the Atlantic Ocean. It measured 101cm, weighed in at 13.8kg and was landed from Olderø Homepool. As always… catch and release is good karma…”

With Oldero located in the far north of Norway and generally starting later than some of the other lodges in the south, this is an excellent sign for the remainder of the season.

Here’s the second biggest fish of the season from the Verdalselva River, landed at Austnes Lodge.
There has also been good numbers of fish over 5-6kg landed at Austnes.

Austnes Lodge – Verdalselva River

We’ve been maintaining regular contact with our good friends and partners at Austnes Lodge on the Verdalselva River, and everything has been positive, with a decent run of fish over the past few weeks, including many exceeding 5-6kg. The lodge has also been responsible for the second-largest fish of the season from the entire river system, a beautiful chrome specimen weighing 13.8kg and measuring 110cm.

Here’s the Atlantic Salmon of a lifetime for our customer James.

Namsentunet Lodge – Namsen River

The first of our customers have just returned home from Namsentunet Lodge on the River Namsen, and they enjoyed a fantastic trip in week 26, landing a decent number of fish, including a fish of a lifetime for our customer James, weighing in at a mighty 13kg and measuring 107cm. Travelling rod Stuart who caught his first Salmon, was also on the trip and he wrote:

“This was my first trip with Sportquest, and I had a fantastic time. I caught my first Salmon, and most other guests caught too, including one that weighed over 25 pounds.”

Customer Guy also landed this beautiful 7.6kg specimen, which measured over 92cm.
