Sportquest CEO Peter Collingsworth recently finished hosting his first week at Worlds End Lodge in Argentina. Here’s what he had to say from the week…
“Wow, my first week at Worlds End Lodge is over, and it was an absolute blast! With both new and returning guests, it was always going to be a fantastic week.
As usual for first-time visitors, it took a day or two to get used to the river. There’s just no place like the famous Irigoyen River in Tierra del Fuego.
At the start of the week, the water levels were perfect – nice and high, with a beautiful tea color in the river. Sea Trout anglers dream of this! Once everyone settled in, it wasn’t long before everyone started catching some nice fish. Laurence, who was visiting us for the first time, quickly got the hang of fishing and ended up with a rare supper slam – catching a Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Steelhead, and a Robalo all in the same day!
We had some mixed weather throughout the week – overcast days and sunny days, but the fishing always seemed to react accordingly. The magical twilight hours were always the best, no matter what the conditions were. And towards the end of the week, it was the highest tides of the season, which started to bring in a new run of Sea Trout.
During the week, the four rods landed some really nice fish, up to 21.5 pounds. There were also a good number of fish above 15 pounds, with some even close to the magical 20-pound mark. One thing that you always notice on this river is just how fat these Sea Trout are compared to other rivers in Argentina. This just goes to show how healthy the fish are – the weight-to-length ratio is amazing.
It was an early 5:30 departure for the first week’s guests, once we waved them off, it was the staff’s rest day. As there was another high tide, I decided to go fishing for a few hours on my day off. What a wise decision that turned out to be! I managed to land 5 Sea Trout and lose 2 more all in a morning session. It just goes to show you how good the fishing is here when the conditions are perfect.
So, here I am, writing to you on the second week of customers arriving. With the new batch of fish and the forecast of rain in the mountains, I’m feeling optimistic that we’ll have a great week ahead. But, of course, we’ll have to wait and see if the Sea Trout Fishing gods are on our side.”
