There’s something truly special about heading deep into Arctic Norway in pursuit of one of the ocean’s most prized fish, the mighty Skrei cod. For Carl and Luke, a self-drive father-and-son duo, their latest trip to Mefjord Brygge delivered not only memorable fishing but a story of patience, perseverance, and reward in one of the most breathtaking locations on earth.

Weathering the Arctic Start
Like many trips this far north, things didn’t kick off exactly as planned.
The pair were greeted by strong winds that kept them dockside, but rather than frustration, they embraced the downtime:
“We started with a classic case of Arctic ‘cabin fever.’ Strong winds kept us tied to the dock initially…”
It wasn’t wasted time though. With support from local guide Robert “incredibly helpful and approachable” , they fine-tuned their approach, studied the charts, and prepared for when the opportunity would come.

Finding Their Rhythm
When the weather window finally opened, Carl and Luke wasted no time getting offshore, and it paid off immediately.
Friday saw steady action:
“We found fish at 70m on the North Side… averaging 15lb with a best of 23lb.”
By Saturday, things shifted up a gear. Moving to the South Side, the quality of fish improved dramatically:
“The ‘Skrei-do’ really began… Luke landed a staggering 45lb beast, while I managed a new Personal Best of 33lb.”

The Session of a Lifetime
Sunday will be remembered for a long time.
Dialling into a productive mark at 60m, the action was relentless:
“We were pulling up fish in the 30lb bracket all afternoon…”
Then came the standout moment of the trip:
“I managed to land two back-to-back 40lb-class fish, smashing my PB twice in one day.”
A remarkable achievement, and a testament to both skill and timing. Even better, all the bigger fish were handled responsibly and returned safely.

A Perfect Finish
The final day brought calm seas and bright Arctic sunshine, a fitting end to an unforgettable trip.
Back on the productive South Side marks, the fishing continued until local commercial activity forced a move:
“Recognizing they have a living to make, we moved on…”
Even so, they rounded off the session with more quality fish in the 15–30lb range, a consistent theme throughout the trip.
Off the water, it was time to unwind:
“We’re ending the trip with a few well-earned beers and dinner at the Mefjord Brygge restaurant, which has been exceptionally good throughout our stay.”

Final Stats
- Biggest Fish: 45lb (Luke)
- Carl’s PB: 40lb+ (twice in one day!)
- Overall Verdict: “Total Morale: 10/10”

Trips like this are about more than just the numbers; they’re about shared experiences, pushing through tough conditions, and making memories that last a lifetime.
As Carl perfectly summed it up:
“It’s been an incredible father-and-son experience… Senja delivered the goods.”
