Add-on Trips when Fishing in Argentina

We’ve been running our Sea Trout trips to Argentina for over fifteen years, and during this time, our portfolio of lodges has grown immensely, as has the number of anglers traveling. From humble beginnings with just one destination and one group a year, we now run multiple exclusive weeks across a wide range of lodges—cementing our reputation as the ‘go-to’ company for Sea Trout fishing fanatics.

Over the years, we’ve noticed a growing demand among our customers for longer trips and additional ‘add-on’ tours. With Argentina being such a long-haul destination, many anglers want to maximize their time by extending their adventure, not only breaking up the travel but also significantly reducing costs compared to booking separate trips, as flights and transfers are only required once.

This year, in particular, we’ve seen anglers take advantage of six specific ‘add-on’ experiences. These include fishing for giant King Salmon on the Caterina River or Río Guanaco, targeting specimen Rainbow Trout in the world-famous Jurassic Lake, and extending their adventure with world-class Golden Dorado fishing at Pinti’s Lodge. Additionally, we’ve introduced opportunities to fish for hard-fighting Steelhead in the Santa Cruz River, experience exhilarating high-volume Dove shooting at Guayascate Lodge, or embark on an unforgettable Antarctic cruise from Ushuaia. Below is more information about each of these incredible add-ons, along with suggested itineraries based on popularity—though they can be customized to suit your travel needs.

Jurassic Lake Lodge

Jurassic Lake, or Lago Strobel as it’s also known, is a world-class freshwater fly fishery in one of the most isolated parts of Southern Patagonia, Argentina. The lake is large, deep, gin-clear, and filled with a vast supply of freshwater shrimp, which has resulted in an unequal growth rate for the Trout that reside within.

The fish average 6lb to 8lb, and those that reach 20lb are generally unremarkable; this is a destination where anglers can hear their reel sing like no other location on earth. Below is an example itinerary of what is possible when combining one of our Sea Trout trips with a trip to Jurassic Lake.

Caterina Lodge

For those of you who have dreamt of catching a specimen King Salmon on the fly, the Caterina and Guanaco Rivers in Argentina will provide you with an excellent chance to tick it off. These fantastic waterways have grown a reputation over the years for producing some of the biggest King Salmon found anywhere in the world.

Fish from 30lb to 45lb are widespread, and fish between 60lb and 70lb get caught regularly. The biggest King Salmon landed on the river was during the 2018 season, when a giant fish was measured and estimated at 90lb. Below is an example itinerary of what is possible when combining one of our Sea Trout trips with a trip fishing for the King Salmon in Argentina.

Pintis Lodge

Few places in the world offer a Golden Dorado fly fishing experience as exceptional as Pinti’s Lodge, perched on the banks of Argentina’s famed Rio Parana. Located near some of the most productive stretches of the river, this lodge provides access to an incredible fishery where Dorado exceeding 30lb are regularly encountered. The vast tailwater system, situated around 150 kilometers below the Yaciretá Dam, offers crystal-clear water with over six feet of visibility, making for ideal sight-fishing opportunities.

When you combine this remarkable setting with the expertise of legendary lodge owner Ricardo “Pinti,” who has spent a lifetime perfecting the art of Dorado fly fishing, and a lodge equipped with top-quality gear, you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable fishing experience. Below is an example itinerary of what to expect when embarking on a Golden Dorado fly fishing adventure at Pinti’s Lodge.

Steelhead Santa Cruz River Lodge

Set among Patagonia’s vast plains, Argentina’s Santa Cruz River offers one of the last great untouched Steelhead fisheries. Flowing 386 kilometers from Argentino Lake to the Atlantic, it holds the only Steelhead run on the entire Atlantic Coast. From late February to May, chrome-bright Steelhead enter in huge numbers, offering incredible opportunities to target these powerful fish. The Los Plateados River Cabin, ideally located on the riverbank, provides direct access to some of the most productive water.

Santa Cruz Steelhead are aggressive, crushing flies before launching into explosive aerial displays, using the river’s strong currents to test every inch of your fly line. While most fish average 9-10lb, one in ten exceeds 20lb, making every hook-up a potential trophy. The Santa Cruz carves a dramatic path through a surreal, milky-blue landscape, creating a Steelhead fishery like no other. Below is an example itinerary showcasing what’s possible when embarking on a Steelhead fly fishing adventure in this remote and untapped region.

Guayascate lodge

Cordoba Province in Argentina is a wing shooter’s paradise, renowned as one of the best Dove shooting destinations in the world. At the heart of this incredible region lies Guayascate Lodge, a luxurious retreat set within 20,000 acres of prime game bird habitat. This exclusive lodge, operated by the highly respected H&H Outfitters, provides access to staggering numbers of wild Eared Doves, which roost in the surrounding hills and flood the nearby fields each morning to feed.

The sheer abundance of birds ensures hot-barrel action, with experienced shooters often firing 500 rounds in a single morning session, followed by just as many in the afternoon. The Eared Dove’s fast, direct flight—often exceeding 50 miles per hour—makes for an exhilarating challenge, testing even the most seasoned wing shooters. Whether you’re a veteran looking for high-volume shooting or a newcomer eager to refine your skills, Guayascate offers an unmatched experience. Below is an example itinerary of what’s possible when embarking on a world-class Dove shooting adventure in Cordoba.

Antarctica Cruise Ushuaia

Nestled at the edge of the world, Ushuaia serves as the gateway to one of the most breathtaking adventures on the planet—an expedition to Antarctica. As the southernmost city on Earth, it offers direct access to the legendary Drake Passage and the icy expanse of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Cruises departing from Ushuaia take travelers across these wild waters, leading to a realm of towering glaciers, massive icebergs, and pristine bays teeming with wildlife. Whether exploring the frozen landscape by Zodiac, spotting whales breaching in the distance, or walking among vast colonies of penguins and seals, every moment is an unforgettable encounter with nature at its most raw and unspoiled.
