Norway’s Marine Resources Act ensures that marine life is managed sustainably, secures jobs in coastal communities, and protects opportunities for future generations. All fish in Norwegian waters are treated as a shared resource that must be carefully managed.

Since January 1, 2018, the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has required all approved tourist fishing camps to register and report guest catches in the same way as professional fisheries. This applies to all of our Norway Sea Fishing Trips.
What does this mean for fishing guests?
If you are staying at a registered camp, such as those offered by Sportquest Holidays and our trusted partners, you are required to register your catch daily during your stay.
- Which species must be reported?
Cod, Halibut, Redfish, Catfish, and Coalfish.- Record both fish landed and fish released.
- Report the number of fish (not the weight).
- Even trips with no catch (“zero catch”) must still be logged.
- How the system works
- On arrival, our staff will register you in the Directorate’s electronic system.
- You’ll be given a personal PIN code to log in via computer, tablet, or smartphone.
- Each day, you enter your catches under your name.
- Before departure, our staff will check you out and issue a certificate of registration.
- Your fishing quota
- Guests at registered facilities may export up to 18 kg of fish per person.
- Guests fishing from unregistered facilities are not allowed to take any fish home.
- The quota can only be used twice per calendar year, with at least 7 days between exports.
- A valid certificate is required at customs. Without it, you cannot take fish out of Norway.
