Battle Hill Lodge End Of Season 2025

The 2025 spring season at Battle Hill Lodge has come to an end — and what a memorable run it was. From the first cast in mid-April to our final day on the water in mid-May, we saw everything Icelandic fishing can offer: massive sea-run browns, changing river conditions, unpredictable weather, and great camaraderie. Here’s a full look back at the season.

Week 1 (April 15–21): Off to a Flying Start

Our first group of the season set the tone in spectacular fashion:

  • 5 anglers landed over 200 sea-run brown trout
  • The biggest fish of the week taped at 90 cm, a truly stunning early-season specimen
  • Steady fishing throughout the week, with strong numbers per rod
  • Clear skies and cold nights also delivered incredible northern lights shows
  • The lodge kitchen kept spirits high with top-tier cuisine

Week 2 (April 21–27): Mixed Conditions, Solid Results

Week 2 brought a mix of weather, but the fishing remained strong:

  • 5 rods landed 167 sea trout, averaging 5.5 fish per rod per day
  • Early-week conditions were bright and technical — requiring finesse and patience
  • Later in the week, heavy rain caused the rivers to spike and cost us nearly a full day on the water
  • Despite the challenges, the group adapted well and made it another very successful week

Week 3 (April 27–May 3): The Toughest Week of the Season

  • 7 anglers landed 104 fish — a respectable number given the circumstances
  • Blown-out rivers and generally unfavorable conditions made fishing challenging all week
  • Despite tough water, our guests kept spirits high and worked hard for every fish landed

Week 4 (May 3–9): Wild Weather, Great Vibes

Iceland gave us a taste of everything in Week 4:

  • 5 anglers fished through rain, snow, wind, and even a summer-like day or two
  • Despite the wild conditions, it was a week filled with laughter, good fishing, and great guests
  • 114 fish landed

Week 5 (May 9–15): An Explosive Finish

The final week of the spring season may have been the best of all:

  • 4 anglers landed 148 fish total
  • One day produced 64 fish on just 4 rods — a remarkable result for this late in the spring
  • Nearly all the fish were caught in the Vatnamót system, with just a few from the upper tributaries
  • A spectacular end to a dynamic and rewarding spring
