“The fishing on this trip was simply superb, and I managed to achieve all of my target species. One of the most fascinating catches was the Guitar Shark — although it was the smallest of the trip, it was by far the most memorable. Knowing this species has remained virtually unchanged for over 100 million years, acting as a link between rays and sharks, made it incredibly special.
During the final 90 minutes of the trip, I switched to lure fishing using my own gear, which turned out to be an outstanding decision. In that short time, I landed 16 Barracuda, all over 20lb, with the largest reaching an impressive 42lb.
Other highlights included a 300lb Bull Shark, a Cobia of around 65–70lb, Jack Crevalle to 30–35lb, an Otolite of approximately 30lb, and a Stingray around 30lb. There were also some powerful encounters that kept things exciting throughout.
The accommodation at Kasa Afrikana was excellent. The room was perfect, the staff were incredibly welcoming, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The service stood out, with the team going above and beyond to assist whenever needed. The food was also fantastic, with plenty of fresh fish and well-prepared meals throughout the stay.
A special mention must go to Gibrille, the head guide, whose knowledge and professionalism were exceptional. His experience and dedication truly elevated the trip, and his ability to consistently deliver results was clear throughout. His approach ensured everything ran smoothly, and his passion for fishing was evident every day.
The overall experience was enhanced by the stunning surroundings and wildlife. The birdlife in particular was incredible, with sightings including Flamingos, Pelicans, Fish Eagles, and even the rare Palm Nut Vulture.
Everything about the trip either met or exceeded my expectations, from the fishing and guiding to the lodge and overall organisation. The advice to have a private boat and room was spot on and really helped maximise the experience.
All in all, this has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding fishing trips I have ever undertaken, and I felt genuinely well looked after throughout.”
