“ Hi Sportquest,
I have just landed in Copenhagen after a great trip to Guinea-Bissau! It has been truly fantastic – in fact, I would say that it is the best long-distance fishing trip I have been on so far! I will try to break it up a bit and give you some feedback:

Pre-Information
The information flow has been really good from your side – a lot of useful information, tickets well in advance. Well done, it has been a pleasure! I would call it 5 out of 5.
Journey & Planning
It has worked very well. The hotel in Lisboa was good. The lodge in Guinea-Bissau is absolutely amazing. Really good cook, nice meals and great service. Journey and planning: 5 out of 5.

Fishing & Guides
I was fishing with a guide called Gilles. I have rarely come across a guy so dedicated to fishing! He was absolutely amazing, and he gave 100% every day. I could not have been more satisfied. The fishing was amazing, and I caught more than 50 fish. Barracuda, Jacks, Cobia, African Pompei and Mackerel. We mainly fished with live bait, which worked well. I had no luck with poppers and lures, and we only tried it for a couple of hours. I brought a lot of heavy jigs, but you don’t actually need any above 120 grams. It’s better to bring small jigs. We only jigged for one day, and it worked very well on jigs up to 120 grams.
It’s good to bring some serious leaders as the fish are very strong. I used 1.2 mm and 1.1 mm, which worked well. One strange thing is that they charge 7 euros per Herring rig used to catch live bait. If there is Mackerel, 5 rigs can be gone in a day. My advice is therefore to bring plenty of those with as small hooks as possible
I would say the fishing was at least a 10 out of 5!

Other Things
As mentioned, there is an 85 Euro visa-on-arrival fee. (Cash payment only.) The English level is very basic, but Google translate can be downloaded in an offline modus and that worked well. I had no serious language problems. I was charged for soft drinks and tourist tax (70 Euro in total), but not for going to the park, as I did not go. I believe the guys after me were going to that park, though. So, no issues with strange extra costs apart from the Herring rigs at 7 Euro each. I tipped the guide 50 Euro per day as recommended and he was very happy with that. I tipped the cook and waiter 10.000 CAF each, and they were also happy.
There is the option to go to a wreck quite far away for an additional charge of 110 Euros. Weather did not permit that while I was there so I did not go. James went and said it was good.

Bring sufficient cash supplies, as there is no ATM on the Island. I also recommend bringing small notes and coins for tipping. I did withdraw local cash at the airport, but the notes are quite large and not suitable for a small tip.
I recommend packing your wallet, passports and electronic devices in plastic bags before transfers. (I did that)
The Island is truly magical. I went for long walks in the village several times and it was truly fascinating. The locals are so friendly and it feels very safe. It has made a great impression on me.

So all in all, I am extremely happy about this trip! It has been wonderful and exceeded all my expectations. I will definitely travel with you again.
Thank you so much!
All the best and kind regards, Hans.”
