Tsimane 2019 Fishing Report Week 4

Great sight fishing and plenty of big fish made for another great week of fly fishing for dorado at Tsimane.

Pluma Lodge Fishing Report

This week at Pluma lodge we enjoyed the company of eight anglers: Sergey and Natalie from Ukraine; John and his son Chris from the U.S.; and Bruce, Diane, Ethan, and Dylan, a family of expert anglers from Montana.

The weather was sunny, warm, and as good as the previous couple of weeks. The water was low and clear. Very good overall.
The big fish showed up again, and our skilled anglers brought in six that were over 20 pounds and two over 30 pounds. There were also some other giants that were lost. In the lower sections, we saw most of the big fish activity, and just like last week, we saw the best water conditions in the upper sections. These waters can demand very technical fishing, but they can be very rewarding for anglers willing to take on a challenge.

Among many highlights, Ethan sight casted to and hooked two fish over 30 pounds on the Upper Itirizama. He landed one and lost the other.
We also spent time with a biologist from the national park authority (SERNAP) who is helping us take samples of these fish and the water. We hope this helps us gather more information to help our fishery in the future.

Agua Negra Lodge Fishing Report

Last week at Agua Negra we welcomed a group of four American anglers — Derrel, Richard, Bill, and Bob — who have traveled throughout the world in search of trout and steelhead.
The weather was really good the entire week. The temperatures were high, and the river levels were very stable.

The diversity of water we fish and techniques we employ on the different waters make Agua Negra a fun and interesting place to fish. We spent most of our time on the Main Secure, where we encountered very good conditions. We also had a good time sight fishing the smaller tributaries.
The biggest fish of the week was caught by Bob —a 25-pound Dorado on the Main Secure —and over the course of the week we landed more than 90 fish!

Secure Lodge Fishing Report

This week at Secure lodge we welcomed five anglers who visited us from Argentina, Chile, and the United States.

We had very comfortable weather during the week and enjoyed great fishing as well. The fishing got better and better every day, and we were impressed with the number of hookups. On the upper sections of the river, we had great surface action and feeding frenzies, and some big fish were landed.

The fishing was similar on the lower sections, as the results got better and better each day. The best strategy was downstream presentations of a dead drift at the ideal depth, mending it to go deeper, then stripping the fly fast through the hot spots. Great fishing paid off — we had two 22-pounders and other fish that ranged from 12 to 18 pounds.

We’re almost in the middle of the season, and we are still getting fresh runs of fish. It’s been great to give anglers the special experience of taking on these fish.
