We’ve wrapped up another incredible week here at the end of the world! This time, we had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic group of anglers from the United States, joined by our great friend, Dave. The week presented its fair share of challenges, particularly with the unpredictable weather—an issue familiar to many places across the globe. We kicked off with limited visibility caused by lingering rain from the previous week. However, this didn’t stop us from landing some excellent fish.
Adjustments were key, and heavy sink tips paired with large flies proved essential for attracting bigger fish. The river was in prime condition for swinging flies, offering great opportunities despite the conditions.
As the week progressed, the water levels began to drop and clear, leading us to switch to smaller flies and floating lines with long leaders. Midweek rains provided a much-needed boost to water levels, keeping the river’s color just right and giving large groups of Sea Trout the perfect conditions to move upriver.
The presence of very fresh fish in the system meant that medium to large flies were particularly effective throughout the week. However, the fluctuating water levels impacted fish activity somewhat, as the lack of stability can make them less predictable.
Despite the challenges, we celebrated some incredible catches, including several fish over 16 pounds—a true trophy in these waters. The camaraderie among our group of anglers was outstanding, and they managed to catch fish nearly every day, making the week both productive and memorable. As always, adapting our techniques to the river’s changing conditions was vital to our success.
