5 Foot Long Cod And Nice Halibut – Nappstraumen Fishing Report
It has really been a stable halibut fishing session this year from Nappstraumen in Lofoten. We have landed Halibut on every attempt this year and the last guided tour with Florian and Matti, the 4h guided tour , ended with a double hook up a stone’s throw from the camp. However, they had one last day left where they got a tip to go to one of our better Halibut marks a bit further away where they got to experience fantastic fishing with as many as 10 landed Halibut in a day where the largest was 115cm. A sick end to their week with us here in Nappstraumen.
We were then visited by some Norweigen guests Geirr and Simen who booked a 3 day fishing trip with us. The first day was aimed at Skrei fishing on the outside Lofoten where we could quickly see that there were only small shoals left and that most were already spawned out. After 3 hours of fishing/searching and a peak weight of 13kg, we decided to go back for a lunch break and then try the Halibut fishing in Nappstraumen instead. Said and done, Simen managed to land 2 nice Halibut this afternoon and since he had never caught a Halibut before, it was a nice end to their first day.
Day 2, we were limited to the immediate area so it was aimed at Halibut. After many hours of wear and tear, we were finally able to end the day with 3 landed with the largest at 115cm! Not only this, but we were also visited by two groups of killer whales who came to visit just a stone’s throw from the camp. An amazing experience that tops off an already fantastic fishing day!
One of the advantages here in Nappstraumen, regardless of the weather, we almost always get to go out to sea where we have a chance of nice Halibut or Plaice. A great alternative when you come here during the Cod fishing when the weather changes quickly.
The last day it was extremely strong current and even tougher weather, this made the fishing really difficult in Nappstraumen but we managed to land a Halibut of 83cm before we went. A Halibut in the boat is always a good day!
