Vesteralen, Fishing Report 18th April 2024

The second week of the season is now over here in Vesterålen. Recently, the winds have really put us to the test, making it difficult to get out into the open sea. But we’ve persevered, and finally, the good spring weather came to us as well.

At the beginning of the week, it was quite windy, and we were limited to fishing within the inshore areas here. But it is very fortunate that we have good spots closer to the camp for flounder fishing this spring. On Thursday’s fishing trip, the guests caught a bunch of flounders, and if you’ve read our Facebook page, you’d know that Jørgen, along with the Norwegians, caught two fine flounders measuring 113 cm and 153 cm. Marcus steered the guide boat and also had successful fishing in shallower waters! With flounders measuring 128 cm, 125 cm, and one just over the limit, it was a successful day despite the windy weather.

Even though the wind made it tough, we finally managed to get out to the cod banks at the end of the week. The large quantities were hard to find, but with patience in mind, we managed to find several nice feeding cods up to 12-13 kilos! Some of them were also line-caught skrei.

On Tuesday, Marcus took the hotel’s own carpenter, Dmitrij, and his family out to sea to try to catch some halibut. Early in the morning, Daria caught her first halibut just over the limit. They saw a lot of fish active near the surface that day, but they proved to be challenging. But persistence pays off, and at the end, Dmitrij also got to feel a bit of rod bending with a nice eating halibut measuring 93 cm!

A new group has now arrived, and the weather forecast looks promising for the coming days! We hope it holds up, and that we can go on some long trips now! The fishing seems to be kicking off properly now, and more people are arriving at the camp. This is going to be incredibly exciting, so keep an eye on our channels for upcoming reports!
