The season has really kicked off now at all our camps in Northern Norway, and here at our new camp in Vesterålen, they are starting to fill up in the coming weeks. As the camps fill up, the weather gods have really been on our side these last few days. So much so that we finally were able to go out on a much-anticipated long trip…
This past week, our guests have focused a lot on both cod and halibut fishing here offshore. The first few days of the week were quite tough in searching for cod, but in the following days, things picked up for Marcus, who steered the guide boat, and they then had a crazy amount of fishing for cod along the shallow tops offshore. Even out on the deep edges, there were some Skrei cod left that they managed to catch up to about 10 kilos.
With successful cod fishing during these days, several of the boats were eager to go on our long trip here. And finally, it would be feasible to actually carry out this tour over the weekend that was. So early Sunday morning we took 3 boats out to this magical place under incredibly nice conditions. The day’s goal was, of course, to aim for cod and the big halibuts that are out there. Quite quickly in the first drop, we made contact with the cods, and we had a little cod race with very nice food fish between 5-10 kilos! This was incredibly fun fishing, but the guys wanted to target even heavier after a while…
We then sought out the halibut that is out there. And it couldn’t have taken more than 2 minutes before we had double strikes on big fish! Jörgen and Patrick stood with a good bend in the rod pretty much directly into the first drift. After a few heavy swings and headshakes from both, they managed to land one big halibut each at 17 and 24 kilos! The two other boats joined this spot, and each boat landed fish over 20 kilos!
It was incredibly fun to get out there again, and we can hardly wait to return. A new week is underway, and we have many days at sea ahead of us. The weather looks very promising, and we hope for more long trips and new fishing experiences!
