Guided Halibut Havoysund Norway Guided Fishing in Norway

Customer Rating 86%

Beyond the Edge, the Heart of the Hunt – Guided Sea Fishing in Havøysund, Norway

This is Havøysund, remote, raw, and just shy of Norway’s North Cape. A serious Halibut destination where the fishing hits as hard as the latitude.

These waters are brutal. Deep fjords, fast tides, and monster flats where Halibut crash baits with force. Drift live or dead baits, drop shads deep, or rig anti-twist leads to tempt the two-metre beast lurking below.

Plaice fishing here isn’t second string. Big, spotted flats feed hard over clean sand. Just a short run from camp, Cod up to 50lb patrol the deeper ground, backed by Haddock, Coalfish, and even the occasional Wolffish for variety.

Fish fully guided from the camp’s luxury guide boat, a high-tech flagship new to the Nordic Sea Angling fleet. You experience English-speaking guides know these waters by heart, finding and driving you to your fish.

Off the water, settle into a self-catering cabin or grab a cold beer and ribs at the restaurant on site. Havøysund may be a small town, but it hides a heavyweight fishery.

Perfect for solo travellers or small groups, and those avoiding the pressure of self-drive, our fully guided trip has it covered.

Sportquest handle every detail. You focus on the fish.

If you want serious Halibut and full-throttle fishing in remote wild waters, fully guided and free from pressure, Havøysund is your next big trip.

During your first two fishing days, you’ll get to experience the fantastic mixed sea fishing on offer at Havoysund. This popular destination is renowned for its Halibut fishing, particularly for the abundance of fish it produces, including those of specimen size.

Alongside Halibut, it’s also famed for its Cod, Coalfish, and Plaice fishing. The latter is one species that is popular amongst travelling anglers, and the camp has produced dustbin-lid-sized flatties of over 4kg.

As this is a fully guided trip, you’ll be looked after by one of our experienced Nordic Sea Angling guides, meaning there’s no pressure on driving the boat or finding the fish, leaving you to concentrate purely on the excellent fishing on offer.

"Paul coped very well with a very testing week due to clients. His interest in the fishing is a real help and is as good as ive found in my travels. The fishing was excellent and would fish in norway again but find the cost of living(food fuel etc) there hard to stomach when compared to every where else ive fished."

"Unfortunately i didnt manage any Halibut this time but the Cod fishing was brilliant and i even managed a Plaice weighing over 6lb's which made my trip.

A little tip if you are thinking of going one day is to fish off the jetty in the evenings as the Plaice and dab fishing is brilliant, just use prawns and light leads catch one after the other"

"For the second time this year, the group was blessed with exceptionally good weather for fishing. On arrival the sun was so hot I thought we had gone the wrong way and landed in Spain rather than the Artic circle! I did not catch anything exceptional to my own rod on this occasion but witnessed the capture of a Halibut assessed at around 175 pounds on our boa. An incredible fish. Will be booking again."

"Hello Sportquest / Paul

Thanks for organising yet another great trip to Norway for me. This time i went to Havoysund and loved it, in fact i loved it that much that i booked a trip back for the following hosted trip when i was still there.

We had very good Cod and coalfish with the odd Wolffish and no Halibut at the start of the holiday. Not that we did not try our hardest, but that changed at the end of the holiday as the last two days the Halibut fishing really kicked off. We all had huge Halibut and Henrik was brilliant

I can not recommend this place in Norway enough. The camp, the staff and facilities were top class and am already counting down the days for next year. Thanks paul your guiding was as always very good "

"Dear Paul, Apart from the weather (rain, sleet and about 2 hours sunshine all week!) it was
, as usual, an enjoyable break from work. I did not see any exceptional fish but all on our boat contributed to a total of seven Halibut (of which mine weighed in at around 4LBs!) We had lots of Cod, several Woolfies and some nice Plaice.

The flight out of Alta was delayed one hour but we just managed to catch the connection to Copenhagen with minutes to spare.

The airlines are currently a nightmare with baggage. on the way out, one guy had his rod tube damaged and a rod broken. On the return journey they managed to lose the same tube altogether. My fish box, full of fish, mostly Halibut, did not appear at Manchester and I am praying they will find it today.

All this has not, so far, put me off and my cheque is enclosed for the next trip!"

"Excellent trip, although weather could have been better for the first 4 days. Lodges were very good. The large Halibut were the obvious highlight, although my 23lb Cod was a great catching experience!

The three flights on the out and return trip were hard work, especially as we had a 4 hour wait at Alta but less than 40 mins for transfer at Oslo

Camaraderie and banter was also brilliant with lodge mates - Friends for life"

"Overall happy with holiday. One observation being that after being entered into a competition we were then told that we would not have access to any guides for two days. Drivers for the boat were provided, but were not guides by any means. The paid for guides were already in the competition, so would not have been available to us anyway.
Another small point is that at this resort card was almost demanded to exclusion of cash. "

"Worst weather ever in Havoysund (according to our guides) for our first 4 days. Although I'd looked up the tidal range it did not prepare me for the strength of the currents between the islands and most of my weights/pirks were just not heavy enough in 60m plus. Did buy a heavier pirk from the shop but very expensive. We had one fantastic 2 hour period in an evening when we followed the guidebook and I caught several cod to 25lb, 38lb was the largest on the boat. One halibut caught on our boat on the last day when guide came out with us. Overall a poor week's fishing for me although other boats had fantastic catches. Would book guideboat if went again. Massive petrol bill, first day we had used £100 of fuel, not sure brochure suggested bill would be so high, about £450 overall.

Well organised trip, pity we had to stop overnight in Oslo although hotel was very good and breakfast was a superb buffet catering to all tastes. Accommodation at Havoysund was adequate and kitchen quite well equipped. Provided breakfast was o.k. with cereals, boiled eggs etc. If you travel alone be aware that you will be sharing with probably 3 others!
Foul weather for our first 4 days and although the tide heights don't look much it really rips between the islands and you do need lots of heavy gear, pirks etc need to be at least 400g in such conditions as you are fishing in 45-90m of water! Chrome pirk worked best for me and I caught about 12 cod over 15lb, biggest 25lb and largest on our boat 38lb. Overall the boats with the guides had the best fishing with loads of halibut up to around 100 lb. Shop has an extensive range of gear but prices are steep so best take your own.
Petrol costs are significant, allow about £150 per person over the 6 days.
I enjoyed the trip overall and would recommend Sports quest. My next trip will be to warmer climes though!

"Had a great time in Norway,

Havoysund for the second time this year.

Met a good bunch of guys and the guides having excellent knowledge of the area.

Fishing was slow for the Halibut in comparison to the March trip for the big Cod but still great fun.

"This was my first time summer fishing in northern Norway with halibut, cod and large coalfish the targets. So I didn't quite know what to expect after 3 successive trips to Soroya for the Skrei fishing.

We arrived to be told the weather was looking windy the next day but there was the option to go out that evening fishing, so we fished until 1.30am in the "midnight sun". That, in its self, was a an amazing experience and we got 7 days fishing!!

The weather wasn't with us all week (it snowed most days) and we never quite had the conditions we needed. Due to the weather we couldn't get out to the cod grounds so had several days of solid halibut fishing which is hard work. However when you finally hook one they are amazing fighters, my first ever was 66lb so chuffed to bits. When we finally got out to the cod grounds the sea was too rough to allow us to get to the best spots, and fish effectively due to the size of the swell. Least we got some sport though!

So the fishing was difficult due to the weather (that's fishing ) but both Mathew Rickard and the Nordic Sea Angling lads did their best to put us on the fish. All in all a really good week though and looking forward to going back to Havoysund for the Skrei in March.

Thanks you Sportquest."

"2nd trip to Havoysund, both times with bad weather unfortunately, but biggest concern is distance needed to travel to find fish, especially Cod. Big fuel bill £185.

"All round great fishing holiday, with some brilliant fishing, met some great blokes, which is always a bonus, journey getting to havoysund is hard work, we were lucky with the weather, not much to do if the weather turns nasty. Only downside for us was polybox full of frozen halibut (16kg)and some tackle didn't arrive at Heathrow, waiting to see if it gets couriered to me, should smell pleasant!! "I have just returned from a Sportquest Hosted trip to Havoysund in Norway. We had a Great weeks fishing mainly thanks to the Sportquest Guide Ross. His boat handling was superb and his knowledge of the fishing grounds was brilliant. He put us on fish every day. He could not do enough for us. So a Big Thank You to him. A great ambassador for Sportquest. Our boat with him had 33 Halibut for the week, so we returned home tired but Happy. Also a Big Thank you to Sportquest for their excellent organising of the trip. From Flights, Hotel and Accommodation, all we needed to do was turn up. They had managed everything. The Buzz from our fellow anglers was everyone was happy with Sportquest and would all be looking to return to Norway with them in the future. "

"The guides took us to their favourite spots to target some Halibut and they were spot on with the tides and managed to get us all our very first Halibuts. They also took us Plaice fishing one day and we had so many around the 4lb area we even managed a small halibut on light rods which was a great fight. I have said to the guides we will be coming back next year as i lost a Halibut that looked massive

"HI i will attempt to send the best photos i have so far , I am awaiting a whole bunch more that look to be of better quality, unfortunatly we did not spend as much time shooting good photo shots as we would have liked now that we are home , you kind of get lost in the fishing moment and the taking of pictures becomes a chore! and there just never seems to be Time? considering the amount and diversity of the fish we had around us almost all the time, Poor Stuart could not put his rod down from the moment we got to the camp especially after he watched me hook an 85 cm halibut on a dexter wedge from the jetty on my bass rod and 20 lb braid second cast And almost land the fish without a gaff or net !! (he still has the scars to prove it from its teeth) FUNNY! . We all struggled with the 24 hr sunshine ,Its just so hard to leave the fishing and try to sleep. On the last day we we left the shelter of the islands and travelled North into the Barrents Sea for a short 4 hr session , I have never seen a shoal of fish so large in my life, we were in 150 meters of water on the edge or a drop off that contoured for about a mile and a half we had fish thick on the sounder from bottom to 10 meters below the surface, a mix of Cod , Coalfish, big Haddock, Ling Cod and Wolf fish that went on as far as we were drifting and probably much further. We were catching just off our leeder, Stu had Coalies to 18 lb and a big Haddock everytime the Coalies were a bit slow, I was the same ,I hooked and landed 38.8 lb Cod at literally 10 meters under the surface. Our days fishing were ended by some gentle drifting by the rocks in shallow water with light gear and prawn baits for big Dabs and Plaice, Of course Halibut of all sizes were part of our daily catch from 70 cm being about the smallest to the largest we caught at 160 cm, we all had big fish ,Simon 115cm ,Stuart 130cm. I had the big one but Stu lost a very strong fish on a 3 lb livebait.smashed up like it was 6lb line. AWSOME. We did not loose a days fishing but we saw awide range of weather conditions, some ugly but mostly beautifull just like the scenery. We all had a fantastic trip ! This is our second time to this camp and it will not be the last, highly recommend Havoysund to anyone wishing to target some of Norways finest species"

"Hello Sportquest, thanks for organising a great trip. The camp and staff were brilliant and the fishing was some of the best i have ever experienced.

I have been going to Norway for the last 10 years and i must say that Havoysund will take some beating.

We both have agreed maybe to go for 2 weeks next year but to the Lofoten Islands as we like to try different places. Once again thank you"

"This is my fourth trip and fishing camp to Norway.
As always the fishing was superb, Havoysund did not disappoint, the Halibut fishing was insane… no small fish here just beasts. All 4 of us smashed our previous best. Cod and Coalfish were in abundance.
The Guides were by far the best we’ve ever had, so much knowledge and help I can’t speak highly enough of them both.
The only minor disappointment was we wanted to try for plaice, but unfortunately we only caught 1’

All in all 10/10"

"As a group we did really well for Halibut, but I was shamefully outfished by by brother and also by my nephew, who had never caught a fish over 10lb before. Lots of cod, but they do seem to be smaller on average than in the Lofoten Islands. "

"A great trip to Havoysund . The overnight hotel for us had changed , we preferred the previous years hotel , that said what we had was good . The fishing was great and the best we have had for Halibut . Accommodation on the camp had been upgraded slightly which was good . A re-organisation with the boat berthing made things easier . The Guide was helpful during the week and we were guided one day as promised . Only one negative , our suits had not been cleaned at the start of our week . That said all enjoyed what the camp had to offer and we are booked again for 2026 .

Pictures and videos of our trip on the Black rock lave net fishermen's face book page which you are welcome to lift and use ."

"The Norway fishing trip was also a great adventure. Seen many Caribou on the journey North into Artic circle. The fishing was excellent, our group of 4 had 4 or 5 halibut each which was our target species. Also had some fine cod to 27 lb. The afternoon on the plaice fishing grounds produced a good number of flatfish including a stunning 8 lb specimen plaice. We seen whales, dolphins & eagles. Excellent fishing expedition & a great outdoor adventure. We have already booked again for 2027. Best regards, John Joyce"

Accommodation

The destination of Havoysund is located as far North in Norway as you physically get; this small fishing town is world-renowned for its fantastic Halibut fishing that you will find in and around the waters of all the little islands that pop up out of the water here.

Self Catering Cabins

The cabins in Havoysund are of high quality and are stylishly furnished. In each house, you will find that there are two bedrooms. Both these bedrooms are upstairs, and each has two single beds. As well as these bedrooms you will find a large living room, fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a very nice hot shower.

The cabins each have Widescreen TV’s with limited Norwegian channels to watch. Each house also features its very own terrace that looks out onto the harbour. This harbour has a breakwater and has jetties as well on which, if you wish, you could visit with shore fishing tackle or lure tackle to fish for the many species that swim here, including Coalfish, Dabs and Plaice.

Onsite Restaurant

When staying at Havoysund Cabins, you will be here on a self-catering basis. There are two supermarkets on the Island both within walking distance. Here you will find the same food as you will buy in the UK. Things are a little more expensive but if you shop smart you can save a little money

The local supermarket stocks everything you would find at home and even some true Norwegian delights.

The onsite restaurant/bar is also open at night, meaning that anglers can head over for a cold beer or a glass of wine and sample the many delights they have on offer, including juicy burgers and BBQ sticky rack ribs.

The fully stocked tackle shop is next to the cabins, so if you decide not to take any fishing tackle, you will find everything available to purchase at very reasonable prices. They stock a vast array of kits, all from leading brands.

Fully Guided Sea Fishing

Our fully guided trips to Havoysund in Norway are famed for offering some of the best Halibut fishing found anywhere in the country, along with a whole host of other benefits. The main one is that there is no extra charge for single anglers or small groups. But another popular reason is you don’t have to worry about driving and positioning the boat or finding the fish and fishing marks, as the guide will do all this for you, leaving you to concentrate purely on the excellent angling opportunities available.

Our guided trip to Havoysund gets based on four anglers and a Nordic Sea Angling guide, fishing from the camp’s luxury guide boat. It’s ideal for solo travellers, pairs of friends and groups and is popular amongst first-timers visiting the country. It also provides a great learning experience for those who want to return on a self-drive holiday. If you’re booking as a solo traveller, you’ll be sharing and enjoying the experience with other like-minded individuals. Many of our solo traveller trips have been responsible for creating life-long friendships amongst anglers who have travelled and fished together.

Havoysund is an extremely popular destination, and we’ve been sending groups to this beautiful part of Norway since 2008; each year, the weeks are becoming more and more desirable and are typically booked up well in advance, so to secure your space, contact us today.

This trip is a hosted tour exclusive for Sportquest Holidays customers and is ideal for solo anglers, pairs of friends and even small groups. Our team of hosts are hugely experienced as both hosts and fishing guides and are well travelled, taking trips of customers around the world and fishing in a wide array of different environments.

North Cape Fishing

Havoysund is the most northerly point in Norway to visit and stretches out into the North Sea, with the camp situated on a narrow strait that stretches from east to west. Its location means you can typically always get out and fish, whatever the wind. You can either head east or west or take some shelter from the surrounding islands, where some of the in-shore marks offer vast amounts of untapped potential – with many never seeing an angler’s bait or lure.

There are two main fishing areas at Havoysund, the fjords and the open ocean. If you choose to fish in the open sea, you can head off in a northerly direction, and after driving for 20 minutes, you will have endless open-water fishing opportunities. On exceptionally calm days, the guides may even decide to take the long steam to the northern tip of the famous island of Soroya.

If the weather is a little unsavoury, a whole host of fjords surrounds the camp. These offer an excellent change from the open ocean and can be fantastic for Halibut fishing, especially if you’re looking to target numbers of fish. Another species found on these inshore marks is Plaice, with Havoysund offering some of the best fishing for these spotty flatfish in the country for both quality and specimen sizes.

How to Catch Halibut & Cod

Havoysund has and is gaining a reputation for being one of the Halibut fishing capitals of Norway, for both the numbers of fish and the size of fish it produces. Regarding numbers, some of our customers’ biggest catches of Halibut have been taken at Havoysund, and many PBs have been smashed along the way.

As this is a guided holiday, each day, you will be in the safe hands of a Nordic Sea Angling guide on the camp’s luxury guide boat. From start to finish each day, you will be utilising the guide’s extensive knowledge of the destination; he will also drive and position the boat, find the marks and fish and help you land your catch and get that all-important photograph for your album.

When Halibut fishing, you primarily use a shad or dead bait. These monster flatfish reach sizes exceeding two metres, and many fish of this size get caught each year. However, Havoysund doesn’t just offer Halibut; it is also well known for its phenomenal Plaice fishing. There are also many other species to target, including Cod, Coalfish and Haddock.

There are many different fishing methods in Havoysund Norway, and we have tried to cover this in our Ultimate Norway Fishing Guide, written by our fishing guides, to help and assist you when making decisions on what fishing tackle to take and how to use it.

*Please note that, by Norwegian law, you’re not allowed to intentionally target and catch Halibut until the 20th of April each year.

Guide Boat At Havoysund

Our guided trip to Havoysund utilises the camp’s luxury guide boat, which is both longer and wider than the standard fishing boats. The Arronet 28CC is a spacious 28ft in length and gets equipped with two 200 Suzuki engines. It is highly fuel efficient and has a higher cruising speed; it’s also the ideal vessel for navigating and fishing the Norwegian waters. It comes with up-to-date Garmin fish finders, chart plotters, VHF radios and AIS system fitted, along with all the relevant safety equipment. The boat also features an enclosed cabin, which is a luxury if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

  • Arronet 28CC (28ft) aluminium boat
  • Two 200hp Suzuki engines
  • Higher fuel efficiency
  • Greater cruising speed
  • Enclosed cabin
  • Top-of-the-range electronics
  • All relevant safety equipment

The guide boat at Havoysund is a new vessel to the Nordic Sea Angling fleet and a flagship model. It will comfortably and easily accommodate four anglers and a guide, providing a tonne of space and is a fantastic platform to fish from.

Norwegian Fishing Guides

With this being a fully guided boat fishing trip, you will always have the luxury of having an English-speaking Nordic Sea Angling guide with you. They will assist you with everything you may need on your fishing holiday and are super experienced, helpful and friendly. Your guide will drive the boat, find the fish, provide tackle tips and tactics and take pictures; all you have to do is enjoy the fantastic fishing on offer! All the Nordic guides are well-known for their professionalism and exceptional knowledge of the fishery at Havoysund.

Joining A Guided Trip

Many people ask what the difference is between a guided and a self-drive trip – self-drive holidays always get based on a certain amount of people travelling together. The normal-sized group is four people sharing a cabin and a boat. But on a guided trip, you can travel alone or as a small group at no extra charge. These trips are ideal for those who want to avoid the pressure of driving a boat, finding the fish or worrying about the weather, and by booking a guided trip, all these fears get alleviated. All you have to concentrate on is enjoying the fantastic fishing on offer. You can see our complete list of guided Sea fishing trips that may interest you.

Paul coped very well with a very testing week due to clients. His interest in the fishing is a real help and is as good as ive found in my travels. The fishing was excellent and would fish in norway again but find the cost of living(food fuel etc) there hard to stomach when compared to every where else ive fished.

I am glad you managed to get your big Halibut and hope you liked the pictures, fish like that do not come around everyday so a very big well done

Unfortunately i didnt manage any Halibut this time but the Cod fishing was brilliant and i even managed a Plaice weighing over 6lb's which made my trip.

A little tip if you are thinking of going one day is to fish off the jetty in the evenings as the Plaice and dab fishing is brilliant, just use prawns and light leads catch one after the other

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Colin, i am sorry you didnt manage a Halibut this time but i am sure you will next time. The cod fishing was on fire this year and i think every one returned home with new PB's

I like the tip for fishing off the jetty, i couldn't believe you were doing it after fishing for 10 - 12 hours a day in the boat and the next thing was i saw you going fishing, mad keen

For the second time this year, the group was blessed with exceptionally good weather for fishing. On arrival the sun was so hot I thought we had gone the wrong way and landed in Spain rather than the Artic circle! I did not catch anything exceptional to my own rod on this occasion but witnessed the capture of a Halibut assessed at around 175 pounds on our boa. An incredible fish. Will be booking again.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hello Mike, tell me about the weather!! it was stunning and something that i hope happens in the future. It changed the day we came home unfortunately very windy for the other guys we had going out there.

Hello Sportquest / Paul

Thanks paul your guiding was as always very good

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hello Mark, glad the trip lived up to your expectations again. Havoysund is my favourite destination in Norway, everything is always so well organised and i get on really well with the guides there.

Dear Paul, Apart from the weather (rain, sleet and about 2 hours sunshine all week!) it was
, as usual, an enjoyable break from work.

All this has not, so far, put me off and my cheque is enclosed for the next trip!

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Mike, thanks for sending us your feedback on the trip. Sounds like the fishing picked up in the last part of your week. I believe the weather was to blame.

Really glad you liked Havoysund again and look forward to hosting you there again in August.

Excellent trip, although weather could have been better for the first 4 days. Lodges were very good. The large Halibut were the obvious highlight, although my 23lb Cod was a great catching experience!

The three flights on the out and return trip were hard work, especially as we had a 4 hour wait at Alta but less than 40 mins for transfer at Oslo

Camaraderie and banter was also brilliant with lodge mates - Friends for life

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Nick, thanks for your feed back.

I did hear that there were some great big Halibut caught and well done on your Cod. Hope Kevin looked you all and hopefully you would like to go again sometime.

The flight route of three flights to get there was a pain but it was explained that the flights from Manchester were longer than from London. And to have that horrible delay at Alta meaning you had to run when you got to Oslo was a massive pain.

Look forward to helping you in the near future

Great camp, shame we had poor weather, only thing is the distance to the fishing grounds can be a trek. Didnt expect the fuel bill we had. Maybe this could be explained when booking as a 1st time to camp.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Mark, It was such a shame about the weather and may of been the reason why the fish were located where they were. Normally the fishing marks are fairly close. Some marks the guides fish are a distance away but generally they only fish them if the fishing is very good.

When those boats are battling against high winds they do use a fair amount of fuel and with the exchange rate being not great we do feel it in the price of fuel. The engines on those boats are the most fuel efficient engines and normally in good weather run very well.

By the look of your pictures you managed some good fish and I bet you are looking forward to going back next year?

Overall happy with holiday.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Phil,

Thanks for taking the time to fill out and send back you feedback form.

Before everyone entered the competition and before we left the UK, I called all the anglers who wished to fish the competition to make sure they all were aware that on the 2 days of the competition there would be no guides available for the 2 day event. Every one agreed that this would be ok. This was something that was told to everyone as this was advertised as a guided trip so I had to make it clear to every one.

With regards to the card over cash, this seems to be the way most Scandinavian countries are now going and I can see the benefits. That way people do not need to take cash and then loss out on it when they return back to their own country with exchange rates.

Glad you liked the holiday overall and hopefully we can help you organise a future trip

Worst weather ever in Havoysund (according to our guides) for our first 4 days.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hello Ivor, thanks for your feedback form and glad to hear you eventually got out fishing. I was watching the weather when you guys were out there and was praying it would change.

With regards to the fuel bill, all the boats in Norway we use are equipped with the most fuel efficient petrol engines you can buy. When the boat is fighting strong currents the boat will of course use more fuel. We always tell people to budget around £150 pp based on four people in the boat for the week. It shouldn't be more than this for a weeks fishing so for you guys a fuel bill for the boat for the week of £450 overall was not bad.

It is a real pain to have to overnight in Oslo but that is the only way as the flights leave Oslo on the Wednesday far to early to get you there from the UK.

Thanks for your kind words and hopefully we can organise you your next adventure (some where warmer)

Had a great time in Norway,

Havoysund for the second time this year.

Met a good bunch of guys and the guides having excellent knowledge of the area.

Fishing was slow for the Halibut in comparison to the March trip for the big Cod but still great fun.

I'll be back

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Shane as always thank you so much for your customer feedback, reviews and continued custom as it is always much appreciated.

It was a shame the halibut fishing was slow compared to normal which as we all know was just down to weather conditions.

We look forward in looking after you again next season.

However please get in contact asap as there is already very very little space on our sea fishing trips for 2018.

This was my first time summer fishing in northern Norway with halibut, cod and large coalfish the targets.

Thanks you Sportquest.

2nd trip to Havoysund, both times with bad weather unfortunately, but biggest concern is distance needed to travel to find fish, especially Cod. Big fuel bill £185.

Cabins could do with a bit of TLC now. Shower cubicle falling apart and stuff like that.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Mark

Thanks again for the feedback, points have all be noted and based on to Nordic.

Its a shame about the weather as Havoysund is an amazing place both for the huge Skrei cod and halibut. One reason that your fuel bill was high was also down to th the weather and distances having to travel to find feeding fish.

You will love A next year for as you can see the fishing has been off the charts. So lets look forward and fingers crossed for 2018

Fishing and weather was poor.

Boats were very good.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

William

Thank you for the feedback as it is always appreciated.

Such a shame that the weather for the hosted trip this year was tough. It was a shame that you did not get to see the destination in its true true colours.

Normally the fishing is full on action. However thats why everyone calls it fishing. So so many times we are controlled by the weather.

As mentioned it will be a pleasure to look after you again to either back to Norway or Canada.

Just contact us when you are ready.

Kind Regards
Paul

Excellent, helpful and friendly guides, especially for a Norway rookie like me.

Halibut festival and the evening were great, if I return to Havoysund, I would like to go when the festival are on.

Kev dancing with the Halibut!!!

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Kieron, thanks for taking the time to fill out your feedback form. It was great to have met you and also to share with you the day your first child was born.....I still dont know how you got away with that. Any way, congratulations on your first ever Halibut and to catch it so quickly must of been a good buzz.

Would be nice to keep in contact and good luck with the new family.

Thanks Paul for putting me on Halibut time after time and i think the other guys thought i had paid you lots. (i managed 14 Halibut in the week and the others only managed a couple each...)

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Stuart, it was a great pleasure to have you on this trip. i host many trips with guys and try to explain the fine art of Halibut fishing and some listen and some don't.

I know you have fished all over the World and always done very well for big fish and from the questions you were asking me i knew from the start that you would do well. Like i say to every the more effort you put in the more fish you get

Look forward to guiding you again soon

For me this was by far the best holiday i ever had with excellent fishing from day 1 personally i landed no less than 7 halibut ranging from small pan size to a PB of 154cm photos already sent to Paul .
The guides were brilliant with expert knowledge and the boats are of top quality.
The accommodation is not 5 star but very comfortable and well mantained and the bonus is the breakfast is included.
Overall an excellent week and i would not change anything.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Gareth, thanks for your feedback form. They are so helpful to future anglers.

Well done on your Halibut thats a huge fish. Would be to guide you out there again and thanks for driving the boat for a couple of days.

Fishing not as productive as previous trips, but then, it is not always about the size of the catch! Having said that, I caught my first Wolfie in about 7 trips!

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Michael, thanks once again for your feedback.

I agree the fishing was a little harder this year but at least we got you your wolfie because I know how much you wanted one. I am already looking forward to seeing you next year and by the way, dont forget the sausages

All round great fishing holiday, with some brilliant fishing, met some great blokes, which is always a bonus, journey getting to havoysund is hard work, we were lucky with the weather, not much to do if the weather turns nasty. Only downside for us was polybox full of frozen halibut (16kg)and some tackle didn't arrive at Heathrow, waiting to see if it gets couriered to me, should smell pleasant!! Nothing to do with sportquest holidays though, SAS Airlines fault

I have just returned from a Sportquest Hosted trip to Havoysund in Norway.

Dealing with sportquest was top notch as was ross the guide. Our room was missing a microwave and only had 2 pots/pans. Also would have been better if the whole sportquest group were next door to each other as our cabins were separate at either ends of the camp. Overall really enjoyed my first Norway trip and looking forward to Vesteralen next year.

I wanted a big Halibut and wasnt disappointed i landed the biggest out of our group, it went 90kg and was released unharmed as were all our fish. My next target on my bucket list is a Cod over 50lb's and looking at your website i think i may be coming on your hosted trip to Soroya

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Glad we could help, i did after speaking to you email the head guide and ask if he could guide you personally. He said he would try his hardest to get you your Halibut and i guess he did

The guides took us to their favourite spots to target some Halibut and they were spot on with the tides and managed to get us all our very first Halibuts. They also took us Plaice fishing one day and we had so many around the 4lb area we even managed a small halibut on light rods which was a great fight. I have said to the guides we will be coming back next year as i lost a Halibut that looked massive

Thanks to head Guide Ulf

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Nicholas

The guides at Havoysund are spot on with all their decisions. Ulfe tends to move about a lot but he is doing this for reason, he is one of the best Halibut fisherman i know and you just have to look at his list of big fish to realise how good he actually is.

Did you try the Plaice fishing from the harbour? when i was there we had them to about 5lb from the harbour wall

Awesome destination

HI i will attempt to send the best photos i have so far , I am awaiting a whole bunch more that look to be of better quality, unfortunatly we did not spend as much time shooting good photo shots as we would have liked now that we are home , you kind of get lost in the fishing moment and the taking of pictures becomes a chore! and there just never seems to be Time? considering the amount and diversity of the fish we had around us almost all the time, Poor Stuart could not put his rod down from the moment we got to the camp especially after he watched me hook an 85 cm halibut on a dexter wedge from the jetty on my bass rod and 20 lb braid second cast And almost land the fish without a gaff or net !! This is our second time to this camp and it will not be the last, highly recommend Havoysund to anyone wishing to target some of Norways finest species

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Peter

thank you so much for a great detailed report, really enjoyed reading it and has made me keen to go back. The Halibut off the jetty sounded awesome, one that i have never heard or experienced before perhaps you may hold the title for the closest caught Halibut to the camp!!!!!

Sounds like the rest of the party also had a blast and glad you all upped your PB's really looking forward to seeing the rest of the pictures and helping you organise next years trip

Hello Sportquest, thanks for organising a great trip.

Once again thank you

Response from Sportquest Holidays

This is my fourth trip and fishing camp to Norway.

All in all 10/10

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Hi Rob, thank you so much for your brilliant feedback form you sent us. These mean so much to our staff and also the Nordic Guides so they can see that they are doing the best they can. Shame about the Plaice but not a bad score you gave the trip!

As a group we did really well for Halibut, but I was shamefully outfished by by brother and also by my nephew, who had never caught a fish over 10lb before. Lots of cod, but they do seem to be smaller on average than in the Lofoten Islands.

A great trip to Havoysund .

Pictures and videos of our trip on the Black rock lave net fishermen's face book page which you are welcome to lift and use .

The Norway fishing trip was also a great adventure. Best regards, John Joyce

Soroya Big Fish Adventure Norway

Everybody in the sea fishing community has heard of the island of Sørøya in northern Norway, primarily famed for its incredible Skrei Cod fishing, for some of the most significant specimens on the planet, including the current world record. However, through the years, it has developed into a true ‘all-year-round’ destination, allowing anglers to enjoy some incredible mixed fishing.

Mortimer And Whitehouse Norway Christmas Special

We were exceptionally proud to be involved with the Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing Christmas Special to Norway in 2022. Being the first time the programme had ventured outside the UK, it took a tremendous amount of work to produce the itinerary and cater for the thirteen-strong production team, but it was a fantastic couple of weeks away. If you enjoyed the programme, here is more information on Paul and Bob's trip and the itinerary it followed.

Aa-gård Lavangen Norway

Aa-gård fishing camp is situated in Lavangen, in Troms og Finnmark county, in northern Norway. Thanks to the protection from the surrounding mountains and topography, the destination is almost one hundred percent' weatherproof' - whatever the weather, it's possible to fish nearly every day of the year.

Mikkelvik Brygge Norway

Mikkelvik Brygge is protected by the large islands of Rebbenesøya and its smaller neighbour Hersoya. As a result, the coastal waters close to the camp are generally calm, whatever the weather and very few fishing days get lost throughout the season. It's famed for its Skrei Cod fishing, as well as its fantastic Halibut and Plaice fishing.

Seiland House Rognsund Norway

Rognsund, located in Rognsundet in the southwestern part of Seiland, is Norway's eighth most significant island and the second-largest in Finnmark, behind only Sørøya. A beautiful island destination, the sheltered waters are home to abundant numbers of Cod, Halibut, Wolffish, Ling, Redfish, and some of the very best fishing spots get found within a stone's throw of the camp.
