Meet Our New Fishing Guide: Ross Johnson

We are extremely pleased to announce that Ross Johnson will be joining Sportquest Holidays exclusively to work as a fishing guide. Ross will be hosting a large variety of destinations around the world, from sea fishing destinations through to some stunning popper/jig fishing destinations.

For those of you who do not know Ross Johnson, he is a well-known species and specimen angler from the UK, with over twenty years of angling experience. To date, he has landed over 450 species from around the world, with more than 120 of those coming from within British waters.

He has been working within the fishing and tackle industry for nearly a decade now, covering all areas of the trade from boat work to online retail. His extensive knowledge of the trade and his love of the sport have earned him sponsorships with tackle giants Shimano and top terminal tackle brand Cox & Rawle, both of which he proudly represents.

In recent years, Ross has set up his own unique guiding service, offering clients the chance to target tope and flapper skate from the shore. His success rate on these species is incredible, with all but one trip in three years resulting in the target species being landed, many of the skate being well over 100lbs in weight!

Although Ross is not a competition angler, when he does compete, he generally does well. In 2017 and 2018, he entered the Angling Trust species hunt, a 12-month-long shore angling competition that attracts around 800 participants each year. He took 1st place both times, winning convincingly on each occasion.

Sportquest Holidays Managing Director Peter Collingsworth said: We could not have found a better suited, guide / host to strengthen the existing Sportquest team. Everyone I have talked to from Ross’s past only has good words to say about him and talking to some of his past guided customers they continually sing his praises. I am personally looking forward to Ross joining our team and working on some more exciting new destinations.
