Nappstraumen, Fishing Report 19th July 2023

What a fantastic week it’s been in Nappstraumen, it’s been mixed fishing for everything from Plaice fishing in shallow water to deep sea fishing for Redfish at +200m. The first few days it was fantastically good weather and a good result on the fishing as well. At the end of the week, there was some wind and debris. It did nothing for the groups that were here to visit. Everyone has been out at sea and struggling. Some of the boat teams have also seen killer whales and minke whales for a few days. A fantastic bonus found here on Lofoten.

Calle and his group of friends from Gothenburg/Lysekil who have been visiting this week. They tried fishing on one of the days that turned out to be great weather and conditions for some deep sea fishing. During that day many nice Redfish came up in a good size for food. Also some nice Whiting came up that day too. The size of the Redfish that came up was between 1 to 2.5 kg.

Halibut fishing is still stable from Lofoten. With many nice fish a day and lots of activity. During the week, Halibut have come up in all the boat teams that have been out looking for them. The average Halibut that has come up has been between 90cm and 1m fish. There are also a couple of fish that are between +120 cm. One Halibut that stands out during this week and is also No. 2 for this season over the magic limit of 2 m. William caught the fish from the Gothenburg/Lysekil group. He hooked a fantastic fish of 211 cm. Great job, and congratulations!

Cod and Coalie fishing this week has been difficult. You have had to search hard. There are small bite periods when there will be double and triple hookups on fine Cod and Coalfish. The biggest Cod during the week was one that weighed in at 16 kg. The weights have been between 2 and 8 kg. Unfortunately, none over the 10 kg class, but that’s how it is sometimes.

There has also been a bit of Plaice fishing for some of the groups on the days when the weather has been a bit tougher for us and which has meant that we cannot get out on the outer side of Lofoten. The largest Plaice have been around 1 kg.

Greetings// Calle, Kristian & Gustav
