Nappstraumen, Lofoten Islands Fishing Report 13th June 2022

This week at Nappstraumen, Raffie and Linda are back from the Dutch travel agency Cordes Travel with a new Penn Festival. A nice event where many of the Dutch travelers have booked in this week to get extra tips and tricks during the week as many have never fished in northern Norway before. Cordes Travel also organizes a competition for the week with great prizes that bring all new travelers together and create extra excitement during the week.

It has been a mix of caught species from the different boat teams as some have focused on fishing for Plaice one day and others for Pollack with lighter equipment and of course the usual fishing out on the outside Lofoten for Cod and Coalfish. Weather-wise, it has been cold but nice weather. The northeast wind has brought the cold Siberian air, but what does it do when the sun is shining and the fish are nibbling.

The boats that have targeted Plaice have had a really nice fishing not far from the camp with top fish of 56 cm. A fishing you must not miss when you visit our camp here in Nappstraumen. As usual, most are released to preserve the fantastic fishing we have, but of course someone is taken up for the culinary experience in the evening.

A couple of boat teams also tested spin fishing for the extremely strong Pollack that resides around skerries and grains. Fishing you should also experience when you are up in northern Norway. The fishing involves placing the boat near skerries and throwing with smaller jigs which you then fish in over the kelp. The cuts are often brutal and with the light equipment it becomes a really action-filled fishing.

The other boats have gone out on the north side and directed the fishing for Cod and Coalfish. Even though the fish have appeared in large quantities on the sonar, the guides Calle, Marcus and Kristian say that the fishing has been difficult the first few days. A lot of fish have been caught but they have not really found the big individuals and they have also had to look a lot before they spot fish that have been active. It is worth mentioning that Cod up to 12 kg, saithe of about 12-13 kg and some bonus Halibut have still been caught.

The northeast wind seems to be turning to more southerly winds now, with this we hope for more heat and even bigger fish. We’re only halfway through this week so much can still happen!

A warm welcome to Nappstraumen in Lofoten
